Head Constable S Hassan Rizvi of the Madhya Pradesh police has donned the roles of Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, Former Governor’s Shafi Qureshi, Bhai Mahavir Singh and the present Governor Balram Jhakar and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the Republic day and Independence Day celebrations in Bhopal for the past 9 years. The only time he did not dummy for one Independence Day was When Uma Bharati was at the helm of affairs after routing the Congress in 2003. The images you get to see below are the one were he is acting as a dummy in the full dress rehearsals at the Republic Day and the Independence Day parades.
Head Constable S Hassan Rizvi, dressed as 'dummy' (Governor Balram Jhakar), accepts a rose from a schoolgirl, at the Republic Day parade rehearsals on Lal Parade ground on Saturday 24th January, 2004. Earlier, Rizvi played 'dummy' to former governors. But with a woman Chief Minister at the helm who will play a dummy for the Independence Day celebrations remains to be seen.
DUMMY CM'S DAY AT WORK: PHQ Head Constable S Hassan Rizvi going through the motions of Chief Minister Digvijay Singh at the police rehearsals for the Independence Day Flag-hoisting ceremony. Apparently chosen for his resemblance to the CM's physique, Rizvi is enacting the role for the drill for the fourth consecutive year. The full dress rehearsal on Sunday will have Rizvi stepping out of an official white Ambassador car at the entrance of the Parade Ground. After an awed Rizvi takes the salute of his seniors, he rides in an open jeep waving at a dummy crowd. On the dais, the National Anthem would be played as he stands in attention. After this he returns to the Parade Ground entrance in the jeep with more hand-waving at the crowd.
